BIOLAC Marsupial Milk
Replacer
BIOLAC is a Milk Replacer for Marsupials It is NOT a universal milk and it is NOT formulated or recommended for any animal other than marsupials. ![]() Developed in Australia by Geoff Smith, with assistance from Dr. Micheal Messer Msc PHD, Bioloac provides the most advanced milk formulas ever produced for Australian native animals. Biolac formulas contain fully digestable carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, and elevated levels of many vitamins and minerals. The lipids have a more favorable balance of saturated, mono and poly unsaturated fatty acids. According to CSIRO research (Australia's Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization), "Biolac milk contains more lipid concentrations (higher energy) and is closer to that of natural milk. Late lactation animals receive more "total energy" from Biolac milk than any other formula. Biolac is more readily digested than any another milk formula due to the ingredient galacto-oligasaccharides (special sugars) which are similar to the sugars found in natural marsupial milk. Therefore, using Biolac is likely to result in fewer problems such as diarrhoea." (CSIRO. Jackson, 2003).

Three formulas of milk replacer were designed
for the different stages of a marsupial's life. (Click on the formula name below to learn the analysis of each - A new window will open linking you directly to the manufacturer's website) M100 - Early Lactation Milk for Marsupials - a colustrum replacement (for "pinkies" or furless joeys) M150 - Mid Lactation Milk for Marsupials (use when dense fur has developed - "peach fuzz" - you no longer see pink) M200 - Late Lactation Milk for Marsupials (used when the animal produces solid, dark pellet droppings. Usually for joeys weighing approx. 4 pounds or 1.8 kg. This composition contains elevated lipid in the form of canola oil. As the joey progresses to weaning, the level of lipid in the mother's milk continues to increase; this lipid is a major source of energy for the young. Canola oil is preferable to other vegetable oils because its fatty acid composition is more similar to that of marsupial milk fats.) ** See Pictures Below for feeding stages ** |

| Helpful Hint: Not included in the kit but pictured are hand warmers. These are an excellent idea to use in the front pocket of the pouch to help keep your preemie warm. The outer pouch is supplied with strings that should be tied around your neck. The pouch is designed to hang around your upper chest area so the baby can hear and feel your heartbeat. This is very comforting and necessary for the young preemie. The extra soft pad is for the preemie to lay on. It acts similar to a water bed in that it provides no pressure points on it's delicate body. It can be put on a hot water bottle or a heating pad. Filled with fiber fill to hold heat and has a cotton cover. |
